Chairman’s Corner: Humphrey Lau
Now we are almost at the end of the year 2011.
In the last 6 months, we have had a lot of things going on in the chamber.
We had in August month “All Chambers event” where a lot of members participated and had a nice evening meeting other business people.
In the middle of September we were celebrating the yearly “Welcome Back Party with the Danish band “Gadedrengene”, which was a huge success.
Also our workgroups: “HR” and “Public Affairs” have been well received by our members and also in this autumn we have had the opportunity to meet the Danish Ambassador
at-large Ms. Ritt Bjerregaard at the Danish Embassy.
In this year we have also faced a new Social Insurance law for Expats in China, which potentially would be a major challenge to many Danish companies.
Therefore we took the initiative together with DCCC chapters of Shanghai and Guangzhou to approach the Danish “Handels- og Investeringsministeriet” and
“Social- og Integrationsministeriet” urging for establishment of a bilateral agreement with China.
DCCC is also cooperating with the Royal Danish Embassy regarding this matter.
As a new initiative, DCCC will only send out requests for payment of membership fees once a year.
In the future this will take place in January month. Also in this connection there will be an adjustment of the fees for those members who paid their membership fees during 2011.
The secretariat will contact you accordingly via mail.

The 3 DCCC chapters have been testing and finalizing the new joint website. The site offers new features, such as opportunity to upload CV’s and for our members to place job adds.
We hope that you will find the new website much easier to navigate through and if you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact the Secretariat.
In 2012 we will arrange HR-trainings for Chinese employees as well as our HR-workgroup and PA-workgroup will continue.
Also we are still having The “Nordic After Work” Fridays, taking you a tour around in Beijing, by arranging meetings at new venues each time. We hope a lot of you still will join us for having a great evening in company with other Scandinavian people.
In 2012 we will change the Nordic after Work a bit, as participants will only be members of the four Nordic Chambers, and every single member is allowed to invite 1 person to the event.
The celebration for Business Person of the Year 2011 took place on 29th October.
The winners are:
Business Person of the Year 2011 – John F. Christensen – Prime Cargo, Wagas and Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 - Simon Lichtenberg – Trayton Group.
Business Person of the Year finalists were: Torben Nielsen, Kopenhagen Fur and George G. Kahwati, Ecco and Entrepreneur of the Year finalists were: Casper Tollerud, Genuine China Tours and Simon Gejroe and Lars Ulrik Thom, Beijing Postcards.
